all started when the
Spanish television station La Siesta
contacted us. The television crew was working
on a report about the
meat industry and asked for our
support.
We agreed with the intention of
making their practices visible. At that time,
we already had
indications that animal welfare regulations were being violated in various
pig farms.
We visited one of these farms with
the television crew, and what we
found there shocked us deeply.
We had never seen anything like it. I
approached a piglet that was writhing on the ground in
pain and gave it
some water. At the sight of the
other animals, I thought, if these
animals die in Elba's products,
then the company bears
responsibility for this suffering.

This farm doesn't even adhere
to the minimum animal welfare
requirements. Many of the animals
suffer severe internal injuries. In
other sectors, they are attacked and killed by their fellow
animals while still alive.
The barns are extremely dirty, and the
animals are forced to live in their own excrement. They receive no
veterinary care here.
They are... Left to their own devices
after slaughter, the animals are
simply stripped of those parts
unsuitable for human consumption.
The facility is located in close proximity to the
headquarters of the Spanish meat and
sausage manufacturer.
We repeatedly found labels with their
logo inside the facility.

Elf's supply chain extends to
Germany;
Amazon and the supermarket chains
Edeka and Rewe also offer Porto products for
sale.

As an investigator with Annemarie Quality,
I have visited hundreds of facilities;
this one is among the worst
I have ever been to. This should
not be happening in the 21st century.
