In February 2012, Animal
Equality published shocking footage of
animal cruelty at the El Escobar pig farm
in
Spain. A worker had
filmed the mange and sent us the footage.
These are possibly the most
gruesome scenes we at Animal

The media and the public
reacted with enormous outrage and horror
to the footage. After we
made the images public, both the
farm's manager and
three of the workers were arrested. Our informant, the
meat producer Elo,
whose products are also sold in
Germany at Reve, Penny, and Edeka,
even filed a complaint against
the company, proving the connection
between the meat producer and the

Arrested and charged with
animal cruelty, he was allowed to
return to work at the same company after only a one-month suspension. At the
end of September 2016,
the court verdict will finally be delivered.
We demand the maximum
penalty provided by law for this
appalling offense. We demand a
punishment that sends a clear message: anyone who
tortures an animal will be held
accountable. This could be the
strictest verdict against animal cruelty in
Spanish history.
